SAVING OUR SCHOOLS (The case of Community Comprehensive Secondary School Uyo)

Nostalgia hits me as I remember my days as a rambunctious teenager eager to meet up with the morning devotion in well manicured lawn of my school environment. My heart bleeds when I look at what has become of some of our schools today, worthy of mention is the very school that has caught our attention in the state capital on a very busy major road in the heart of Uyo metropolis… Community Comprehensive Secondary School . I’m sure most people are gasping now and saying not possible but the pictures your are about to see are as true and genuine as the sun that shines by day. Behind this beautiful exterior lies the horror you are seeing below.

 As you move further into the compound you will begin to see why we need to come to the aid of this children.  "A picture speaks a thousand words" what words do you see and what is the future of anyone that passes through this institution??

Is this where future leaders go to every morning? What quality of education can they possibly get? Where do we start from? The classrooms? Or the state they are in? is it the labs or the environment? Where do we begin?

Below are heart breaking pictures of what these children face everyday and  even in the most un-conducive environment, they are still willing to learn. 

We have more children seating on the floor than on the broken desks as you can see. The roofs are no better than what we have seen above and during the rainy season the classrooms become flooded because of lack of windows and doors and these kids will have to pile up at a corner of this dilapidated structure for shelter.

WHO WE ARE!

The situation room (TSR) is a think tank group with members spanning from all works of life with one common goal. TO MAKE AN IMPACT IN AKWA IBOM STATE, the plight of CCSS was brought to our attention by one of our members who saw the need to give back to the system that produced most of us. 
To make this happen, we sent members of our group to get first hand information from the School authorities and students to know how we can help them.

Below is the malignant plight and unflinching determination that touched the hearts of every member of the group and made us say "We are tired of waiting for the government to do everything"  And we decided to take up one school at a time in Akwa Ibom state in our project “SAVE OUR SCHOOLS”. We have asked and as we wait for the response that might not come; we will start by lending a hand to those in need.

  
THEIR STORY

A committee was set-up to visit the school and they saw things first hand, listened to students, teachers& the principal, the principal clearly stated that the biggest of all the problem was water because of the accidents & hazards which the students face going out , teachers stray outside to use toilet, the environment stinks so even if there was a toilet of the lowest standard, water  will still be their major challenge..

OUR MISSION

Project SOS is targeted at getting every well meaning Akwaibomite home and abroad to contribute to the development of our communities, government comes and goes but we will always be Akwa Ibomites whether by birth, marriage or affiliation.   
TSR as a group have decided to handle the water project and provide industrial waste receptacles through the ministry of Environment for CCSS Uyo and also support the waste management enlightenment programmes  in schools in Uyo.
We can never over emphasize the importance of education to any community; we need to have more educated and Prominent Akwa Ibomites to make impacts in our country and the world at large.

HOW TO ACHIEVE OUR GOALS

Everyone can participate in project SOS just by donating what these children need to have basic education. We are pleading for donations of textbooks for the library, pitchers, beakers, bunsen burners for the science lab, T-squares whatever you used in and you think might be of need to these children.

Judging from the site of the school, financial contributions will be needed as well to give these rooms a facelift and make them more conducive. Seaters will be provided for each classroom as well.

We also welcome volunteers to help achieve this great dream, whether it’s just one Laboratory or one school or one state that we are able to fix; let’s make that impact and have our names engraved in the sands of time.

COST ESTIMATE OF EACH PROJECT 

Renovating and equipping the IT center with computers will cost  N 2,000,000

To buy equipments and renovate the intro tech lab will  cost         N5,000,000

renovating the staff quarters                                                           N3,000,000

building quality toilets                                                                    N800,000

 

The principal also explained that to equip the lab, for either NECO or WAEC Exams will cost about  N400,000 each, the building is an eye-sore as the protectors have been seriously tampered with, so we will include the cost of both exams at N800,000 and fixing of the building.

HOW IT WORKS

We are not asking necessarily for cash. we want donations of materials, manpower, expertise in any of the fields mentioned above to help make life better for that boy or girl whose hope lies solely on your good will.

For everyone who wishes to participate in this project, please indicate on our website or blog and state what you want to donate . This blog will be updated  weekly on the progress of the project and the participants involved.

With just N 1,000.00 you can give Community Comprehensive Secondary School safe portable drinking water, functional science and introductory technology laboratory, good conveniences and classrooms
